When you want to see America and decide to visit the state of Arizona, you will be taken through winding scenic roads to see the native wildlife or you can enjoy a day of leisure on a luxury golf course and spa getaway. Or, you could take part in mountain biking or hiking, downhill skiing or viewing the desert sky. No matter what you enjoy outdoors, Arizona has it for you. When you visit the Grand Canyon state, you will experience a culture that is unique and inspiring.
The youngest state in the continental United States, Arizona is rich with legends about America’s Old West. The great Indian chiefs Cochise and Geronimo took their people and led them against the frontiersmen. Before this, The Spanish came looking for the famous Seven Cities of Gold. Most of the early settlement was for missionary purpose and after the Mexican War in 1848, most of the territory in Arizona because a part of the U.S. and the southern portion was added in 1853 by the Gadsden Purchase. Arizona today has one of the largest American India populations with more than fourteen tribes on twenty reservations.
Arizona has seventeen state parks and three national parks, plus several national forests and national wildlife refuges. Other than the very famous Grand Canyon National Park, you can find places such as the Lake Havasu State Park and the Petrified Forest National Park. They each have their own unique attractions for you to see. Lake Mead is found at the border of Nevada and Arizona, and it is a favorite spot for fishing and camping which is open all year round thanks to the consistently warm climate of the desert.
There are several sightseeing opportunities on day tours that leave from just about every one of the great cities and large towns in this state. If you want to journey to the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff is the best place to start. The city of Sedona offers all kinds of horse, jeep and helicopter tours of the beautiful Sonoran Desert, while Tucson has both abundant regional history and scenic trips.
If you want to include great shopping and incredible restaurants in your travel plans, you should visit the Phoenix metro area which includes eight cities including Phoenix, Glendale and Scottsdale. No matter where you go when you visit Arizona, you are sure to enjoy an amazing and unique trip full of history and wonderful sights in nature.
